Description

selection and drilling

Drill multiple holes using bit diameters ranging from 13/16 to 1-5/16 inch (30 to 33 mm) to determine the appropriate drill bit diameter for satisfying the suggested initial anchorage of 3 to 6 tons. For every hole, drill a minimum of 2 inches (5 cm) beyond the bolt length. Note the bit size and assign a number to each hole. (A bit may drill a hole bigger than its diameter on soft ground. The hole and bit may have the same diameter in extremely abrasive terrain.) Install an SS-33 Split Set stabilizer, complete with a draw collar and spacer, into each hole as shown. Keep track of how long each stabilizer was driven. Check each stabilizer’s internal slot closure after insertion. Conduct a pull test to ascertain anchoring. Pressurize the pull tester until the stabilizer slides into the hole after aligning it with the stabilizer. Make sure the stabilizer is the one that has slipped by keeping an eye on it. A number of modifications, including localized rock crushing, bearing plate settling, and tester housing realignment, may take place as the draw force on the stabilizer is increased. It is important to distinguish these from tube slippage.  Pressurize the tester pump until the bolt slides once more after it has slid into the hole. Subsequent slippage should result from the same pull load.
